About Us
XCaliber is the operating platform for healthcare and health tech organizations, enabling real-time decision-making and autonomous workflows. Our platform powers healthcare-specific copilots through three core products: an Interoperability Gateway (out-of-the-box access to Epic, athena, Elation, eCW, and more), a Healthcare Data Fabric for clean, connected data, and Agentic Workflows for automation at scale. The result: faster integrations, lower costs, and improved patient care.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer – Database Specialist who thrives in a startup culture, is a self-learner, demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, and communicates effectively across technical and non-technical teams. You will play a critical role in ensuring our platform’s data layer is robust, scalable, and optimized for real-world healthcare workloads.
What You Will Work On
- Database Performance & Optimization:
- Analyze, optimize, and fine-tune queries to ensure optimal performance at scale.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues across production, staging, and development environments.
- Architecture & Capacity Planning:
- Design and execute capacity planning strategies for Aurora, Iceberg, and Redis to meet scalability and availability requirements.
- Work with infrastructure teams to plan and execute upgrades, migrations, and scaling events.
- Development & Automation:
- Develop tools and scripts in Python, Node.js, or Go to automate monitoring, performance tuning, and operational workflows.
- Implement best practices for indexing, partitioning, caching, and replication strategies.
- Collaboration & Mentorship:
- Partner with application developers to design database schemas that align with business and performance goals.
- Mentor junior engineers in database design principles and query optimization.
What We’re Looking For

- Experience with capacity planning, replication strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
- Familiarity with high-availability architectures and distributed database concepts.
- Knowledge of security best practices for data handling, including encryption, RBAC, and audit logging.
- Self-driven, eager to learn, adaptable to changing priorities, and capable of delivering in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in healthcare or other highly regulated data domains.
- Exposure to streaming data pipelines and integration with analytical workloads.
- Experience with observability tools for database performance monitoring.
- Background in multi-tenant SaaS environments.
